Step inside our stunning yet simple Mervon home build – Bolden Constructions’ first ever Design and Construct project. Our team were approached to craft a low-maintenance modern home that would include three bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open-plan living, kitchen and dining area and a carport.

While our clients were after a simple design, they didn’t want a cookie-cutter home that would sit unnoticed on the street. The brief was to build a family home that would seamlessly combine quality craftsmanship and flair with functionality.

The Process

We kicked off our Mervon project by meeting with our clients to discuss what they liked and what they didn’t – both of these are equally important in ensuring our concept design aligns with our clients’ vision. We used this information to craft an initial concept, which our clients loved instantly.

From there, we worked closely with the build team and our subcontractors to ensure the project could be completed within budget. We also discussed potentially “complicated” elements of the build and simplified these, where possible, while still achieving the desired result.

The Approach

We split the home into two wings, to allow “zoning down” when not all spaces were being used. This also meant plenty of northern light and sunshine could enter the home at all times of day.

To ensure the completed build was low maintenance, while still delivering on architectural flair, we integrated timber cladding, brickwork, Colorbond Enseam cladding and polished concrete flooring into the design.

The Challenges

The key challenge we faced with this particular build was the sloping block – a three metre cross fall from back to front. This required a little extra ingenuity from our design team, who responded by creating a site cut and split-level design.

Our client was also adamant about including timber hexagonal tiles into the interior of the home. These were surprisingly hard to source, but after searching high and low, we finally found the tiles in Sydney and were able to use these throughout the house. Our client was thrilled!

The Design and Construct Difference

One of the great reasons to choose a Design and Construct service is the efficiency. This project was completed quickly and without complications – our clients first approached us in late 2019 and the finished home was handed over in November 2020.

Design and Construct is also the best way to make sure potential complications are dealt with swiftly and effectively. During construction on this project, we were able to address challenges immediately by scrutinising and inspecting the design as we had created it in house. Of course, these were few and far between as we had consulted with our construction team in depth during the design stage.

We are very pleased to report that our clients are over the moon with their new Bolden Constructions home.
